An electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission is available as an option for the 4-cylinder models (standard with the E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY[1]). Gentle and short gear changes guarantee dynamic response and excellent ride comfort.
Using the standard-specification DIRECT SELECT shift paddles in conjunction with the sports package and "M" mode, you can change gears without taking your hands off the steering wheel.
The 6 and 8-cylinder models come as standard with the 7-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission as well as the DIRECT SELECT lever on the steering column. The seven forward gears of the 7G-TRONIC allow for a larger ratio spread between lowest and highest gears and still ensure smaller intervals from gear to gear. This guarantees a balanced engine speed, lower fuel consumption and virtually imperceptible gearshifts. For faster mid-range sprints, the 7G-TRONIC can skip several gears thanks to the multiple downshift function.
Using the standard-specification DIRECT SELECT shift paddles in conjunction with "M" mode, you can change gears without taking your hands off the steering wheel. The location of the selector lever on the steering wheel also creates additional stowage space under the centre console as there is no shift gate there.
The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission is included as standard with the E 63 AMG. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT system enables even faster gear changes. It significantly enhances driving dynamics by adapting the transmission/accelerator pedal characteristics and the suspension/shock absorber settings for the AMG sports suspension.
