Virtually no other area inspires us to produce consistently impressive results more than safety. We passed an important safety milestone during the 1950s with the development of the passenger safety cell, an invention by Béla Barényi. Today it is just one of many components of our safety concept, which edges us ever closer to our vision of accident-free driving.
The integrated safety concept divides automobile safety into four phases. To ensure safer driving, the vehicle helps the driver to identify critical situations promptly and handle them safely.
In the second phase, in the event of danger, a number of preventive measures can be activated to reduce the risk of injury, and for example to prevent a collision by automatically activating the brakes.
In the event of an accident, the occupants can benefit from effective, customised protection provided by the comprehensive range of passive safety systems. Additional measures come into play after an accident, e.g. to facilitate easier rescue.
